EMiS urge for a pathway back into Europe

Published on February 22, 2024

Last weekend amidst the celebrations of the European Movement's 75th anniversary in the UK EMiS volunteers took part in our ongoing efforts to advocate for closer ties with Europe by attending the Scottish Labour Conference in Glasgow.

For the last six months, we've taken our message of 'More Europe' to party conferences across Scotland. As delegates gathered in Glasgow our conference stall gave us a platform to engage with party members, sign up new EMiS members, and raise awareness about our various campaigns.

The enthusiasm and support for our cause among grassroots members was heartening. Away from the stall we had meetings with a variety of Labour politicians, including Neil Bibby MSP, Scottish Labour's Europe spokesperson. These discussions provided valuable insights into the party's stance on European issues.Labour Leader, Ana's Sarwar MSP, also met with our new Honorary President, David Martin, the UK's longest-serving MEP.

I hope that our efforts over the weekend went some way to encourage the party leadership to embrace the energy and enthusiasm of their grassroots members for Europe and helped underscore the urgency of prioritising a pathway back into the EU in the upcoming elections.
